The focus of our work is on man’s companion which has been so fascinating for painters since the genesis of art. It is also a challenge to engage ourselves with a motif that opened-up the history of painting, for example the cave paintings in Lascaux and Altamira – with our horse series we are endeavouring to draw a direct line between then and now.
Why are we so fascinated by horses? What is it that releases such great, indefinable emotions in us? Mysterious, powerful - it goes beyond an exact definition. To evoke these abstract sensations is the challenge we have confronted ourselves with.
It is less the naturalistic portrayal, the anatomic details or idyllic Western scenes that interest us in the depiction of horses, which, for us as academically trained artists, would be no problem. It is more the spiritual aspect, the human side of the animal as a mirror image of man, which the horse gained during the long coexistence with the human being. |
All of our paintings are compositions and thus are not direct reproductions of reality. It is not genre painting and they are not “snap shots” or naturalistic depictions of real situations – even if they may appear so sometimes. All of our works are compositions – composed paintings. We find the material for our paintings directly in our environment or we assimilate medial images of any type. We synthesize all realities to form a reflection in form and colour.

Was fasziniert uns so an Pferden, was löst die großen unbestimmbaren und mächtigen Gefühle aus? Mysteriös und mächtig, es entzieht sich der exakten Definition. Diese abstrakte Empfindung heraufbeschwören ist die Herausforderung der auch wir uns gestellt haben.
Weniger die naturalistische Abbildung, anatomische Details oder idyllische Western Szenen interessieren uns an Pferde-Darstellungen, was für uns, akademisch geschulte Maler auch kein Problem wäre, aber mehr interessiert uns das Spirituelle, das Menschliche am Tier. Wir malen Gefühle und Empfindungen von uns Menschen zu diesen faszinierenden Geschöpfen. |
